The Chinese Medicine Cleanse is a three-week program blending ancient Chinese wisdom with modern nutritional research to help you lose weight, feel better, and have more energy. The Chinese Medicine Cleanse is more than just a “diet,” and it’s not some cleanse where you do nothing but drink juice all day (in fact, we think you should limit juice!). There are no weird pills to swallow (feel free to go nuts with taking a multi-vitamin, omega-3s, or probiotics). How Does the Cleanse Work?

Every day we unlock new content to keep you focused and in the present moment. We guide you through the program step by step, and ease you over the three weeks into increasingly healthier foods. Don’t worry though, we make sure that you aren’t slammed with changes in what you can eat without getting a head’s up so that you can plan your grocery trips accordingly. We’re there to hold your hand and cheer you on!

Each week we will unlock a new manual. Every day you will have new content- items like a short meditation video, a short yoga video, recipes, and your daily inspiration- to focus on for that day.

As soon as you sign up, you will be able to request access to The Chinese Medicine Cleanse Facebook group, where fellow participants, Dr. Jen Yocum, and advisory panel members are waiting to answer your questions, provide you support, and hopefully get to know you better! It really is a great community, and we hope you will contribute and be an active part of it. After the three weeks are completed, you will continue to have access to the Facebook group, because this is not just 21 days and then done. The Chinese Medicine Cleanse is structured so that you can continue to practice eating and living with the skills you have learned, and even further refine your diet and lifestyle to be the perfect one for you.

 

What can I eat on the Cleanse?


Balance the body

Each week, you will get information about the Chinese Medicine nutritional concepts, and some recipes to support you along the way.

All recipes are:

  • gluten-free
  • dairy-free
  • have limited sugar (if any).

Most recipes are:

  • vegan or vegetarian-friendly or modifiable (we include suggested modifications as applicable)
  • paleo-friendly
  • hearty and filling enough to satisfy your hunger (and we learn about hunger in the Cleanse as well!)


Do I have to throw out everything in my pantry?

No!! The Chinese Medicine Cleanse is about eating healthier, but that doesn’t mean you have to throw out what you’ve got. We believe in everything in moderation. During the three weeks, there will be foods and substances you will limit, but if you find your body reacts fine to them again after the three weeks are up, you have the choice as to whether or not to add them back in to your diet. If you discover during the Cleanse that you react to something, for example, bloating after eating dairy, and you have some items you prefer not to eat anymore, then check and see if a local food bank or shelter may want the donation, or perhaps a friend, or make a meal with it or give it to a local homeless person. I know some people say out of sight out of mind, and if you feel you need that to not be tempted to eat something that doesn’t make you feel good, then instead of tossing it, try to at least feed someone in need with it!

Dr. Jen Yocum, L.Ac., RYT200 is a licensed acupuncturist, registered yoga teacher, Reiki Master, certified feng shui consultant, and instructor in these and related fields. She is a former neuroscientist and combined her background in research with her other areas of study to create The Chinese Medicine Cleanse, a dietary and lifestyle program. Jen loves to teach and develop programs and courses that help people achieve a state of dynamic balance in body, mind, and spirit.

Jen is additionally certified by the NCCAOM as a PDA provider for professional acupuncturists.



A note from Jen:

I love learning, and I love teaching and helping even more.

I can’t even deny it; I’m a life-long learner and I love it. I started out my career with a Master’s in Experimental Psychology and did behavioral neuroscience research for about 15 years. While a scientist, I studied many things on the side, becoming certified in Feng Shui in 2003, a registered yoga teacher in 2006, beginning my studies in acupuncture in 2007 and Reiki in 2008, and earning my second Master’s in Acupuncture in 2010. Along the way and since then, I have received additional certifications in there in various types of yoga, and finished my Reiki studies to become a Reiki Master in 2015. In January 2017 I went back to school and in April 2018, I received my doctorate in Acupuncture. I taught in various forms on University faculty for over a decade, recently shifting to focus on teaching CEU and general public courses.

Why am I telling you all of this? Because I have taken all the things I have learned over the last couple decades, and refined it into an amazing program in The Chinese Medicine Cleanse. I teach you how to change your relationship to food, how to integrate in lifestyle changes, and to finally come to a place of balance.

The terrible cleanse experience that inspired me to develop my own cleanse.

I have been a registered yoga teacher since 2006, and I always look for new and interesting yoga courses to take for continuing education. In the beginning of 2011, I signed up for a program to be trained in a particular style of yoga. As part of that training, I had to do the teacher’s 21 day cleanse. It was largely raw and vegan. I’d been a vegetarian for 10 years and figured the cleanse would be no big deal. WRONG. Over the course of just several days, I became a congested, zit-ridden, low-energy, shell version of who I used to be. My acupuncturist was furious with me and begged me to stop. She gave me a treatment that helped me feel a little better, but I kept doing the cleanse (I seriously hate quitting things). I got even worse. I stopped wanting to eat.I felt kind of dead inside. When I heard that the third week of the cleanse was switching to all juices, I literally broke down into tears. I couldn’t go on.

Going through that cleanse was the inspiration and kick in the butt I needed to step it up and actually eat well, in a way that would help me thrive. Forget just making it through the day. I wanted to treat my body like the temple it was (and is). I’m not here to live life in a puny way. No sir and mam, I am here to live life BOLDLY. After declaring this to God/The Universe/Spirit inspired me to create The Chinese Medicine Cleanse, and the content just flowed through me and onto the computer. That was in 2011. Since then, I’ve led tons of people through the cleanse and watched as they’ve truly transformed their health.

I feel blessed that I get to partner with people on their wellness journey on The Chinese Medicine Cleanse, as well as in my treatment room and classrooms. I’m proud to combine all of my experience and learning- Chinese Medicine, yoga, feng shui, energy work, meditation, behavioral neuroscience and more- into one amazing program. Frequently Asked Questions


When does the Cleanse start?
The Chinese Medicine Cleanse is currently available for you to sign up whenever you like, though I also have groups of people start together at various times throughout the year. You will get access to the first manual after you purchase, and then the first day of the program starts 3 days later. That way you have time to read the manual and purchase any food you need. Every day you will get new content for 3 weeks. You will continue to have access to the materials after the course has ended, so if you cannot start the day you start getting the content, you are still able to participate at your own pace and get support in the private Facebook group.
How long do I have access to the course?
How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own.
Will I lose weight?
Not everyone who does the program needs to lose weight, but those who do usually will lose some weight. While we cannot guarantee weight loss, since many factors go into that, most people on average lose anywhere from 3-12 pounds, with most losing 6-8 pounds during the three week period. We’ve had some members continue on after the three weeks and lose multiple dress/pant sizes!
Can I do the program if I don't live in the United States?
Sure, everything is completely online, so you can access it no matter where you are on the planet. We do encourage seasonal eating, so if you are in the Southern Hemisphere, and your seasons are opposite of those in the Northern Hemisphere where we are based, we still have plenty of great seasonal recipes you can select from on the Cleanse program, as well as the additional recipes on the Cleanse website.
Can I have alcohol on the Cleanse?
Yes, the Cleanse allows for alcohol in moderation (2 drinks or less per week) during the three weeks.
Do I have to give up eating or drinking anything during the Cleanse?
You will be limiting certain foods like wheat, dairy, sugar and some more select items, but you can still consume them during the Cleanse, and unless they make you not feel so great, you can continue to consume them in moderation after the three weeks are up if you want to continue eating in the Cleanse style. There are other foods and drinks that you will limit in their entirety during the Cleanse, including fried foods, artificial sweeteners, soda, and coffee. Once the three weeks are done, you can assess whether or not you want to go back to consuming these items in moderation (though we recommend staying away from artificial sweeteners forever!).
Wait...no soda or coffee? But, but, but...CAFFEINE!!!
It’s actually not about the caffeine at all. It’s about the substances and oils in the coffee and soda (we tell you all about it in the Cleanse). Though we don’t recommend going nuts, you’re still able to have caffeine on the Cleanse. You can have black or green teas, which are a healthier alternative to get your boost. We also incorporate in some lifestyle changes that will help regulate your adrenals, such as yoga, meditation, and tips to get better sleep, so that you won’t likely need the caffeinated drinks by the end of the three weeks. If at the end of those three weeks you really want to go back to drinking coffee or soda, then we talk about how you can do so in a more conscious manner.
What if I'm on a special diet or can't eat certain foods?
The great thing about the Chinese Medicine Cleanse is that you can follow it whether you are an omnivore, vegan, vegetarian, paleo, or you just have particular food allergies. Unless you are allergic to all fruits, vegetables, meats, and pretty much food in general, there is something for you! We make sure to provide plenty of recipes to address all food preferences, and can provide substitutes if you ask us for one that isn’t already included.
If I have a medical condition, am I able to do the Cleanse?
Because the Cleanse focuses largely on eating “whole foods” (in other words, foods that are not processed), it is unlikely to cause issues for people with medical concerns; however, we recommend that you talk to your health care provider before starting this or any program that includes dietary or lifestyle changes.
Can I do the Cleanse if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
The Cleanse is generally safe for anyone, however keep in mind that during pregnancy, unless your health care provider has advised you otherwise, you should not focus on weight loss. Post-pregnancy, you may have restrictions on exercise or any kind of physical activity for at least 2 weeks and up to 8 or more weeks. While breastfeeding, new mothers have higher caloric needs (about 500 extra calories a day), so as long as you are eating when you are hungry, and not depriving yourself, you should be ok. The Cleanse does not count calories, and instead trains you to focus on eating when you are hungry. With any of these conditions, please make sure to consult with your obstetrician, midwife, or other health care professional prior to beginning the program.
